Lavazza Coffee Review (Beans, Pods, Subscription)

Lavazza is easy to find in UK supermarkets and fairly priced. Here is what its beans, capsules and subscription cost, and what Lavazza does not publish.

How to Store Coffee Beans: Keep Them Fresh for Longer Reading Lavazza Coffee Review (Beans, Pods, Subscription) 21 minutes

This Lavazza coffee review looks at the beans, capsules and subscription UK shoppers see most often.

You will find Lavazza at Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Ocado. That makes it easy to buy, but harder to judge.

So is it worth your money? Or is there a better everyday coffee for you?

Elegant Italian coffee setting with espresso, beans, and capsules in soft Mediterranean daylight.

Quick verdict

My verdict is simple. Lavazza sells widely available, fairly priced Italian blends with real sustainability work behind them.

Qualità Oro is the easiest place to start. ¡Tierra! for Planet is the one to pick if you want organic. The gap is purity data. Lavazza publishes no mould, mycotoxin or pesticide lab results for these coffees.

One thing first. I founded Balance Coffee, so I sell coffee too. Our own coffee appears once, near the end, in a clearly labelled section.

This review carries no scores. We have no logged purchase of these Lavazza products, so I have not scored them.

Here, I set out what Lavazza publishes, what it costs and what it leaves out. If Lavazza shares lab results for these coffees, I will gladly update this page.

Lavazza has been part of Italian coffee for far longer than those 14 years. So this Lavazza coffee review starts with where the company came from.

What Is Lavazza Coffee?

Lavazza is an Italian coffee company based in Turin. Luigi Lavazza opened his first shop there in 1895.

He studied the art of blending beans from different origins. The company became Luigi Lavazza S.p.A. in 1927.

Members of the third and fourth generations of the Lavazza family sit on its board today.

Sustainability
EcoVadis Gold medal (2023). Lavazza Foundation, set up in 2004.

That history explains the brand. But where is the coffee actually roasted?

Where Is Lavazza Roasted?

Lavazza is headquartered in Turin, but it roasts at more than one site. In 2021 it announced its first US roasting and packing plant, in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

UK supermarket listings name Italy as the country where these bags are made.

Traditional coffee roastery with green and roasted beans.

Where a coffee is roasted tells you little about how it is grown. Sourcing is the next question.

Lavazza's Sourcing and Sustainability Philosophy

Sustainability is where Lavazza has the most to show. The Lavazza Foundation was set up in 2004.

It now runs more than 50 projects in 20 countries across three continents. Lavazza says these projects have reached over 180,000 people.

In January 2023, Lavazza earned its first EcoVadis Gold medal. That placed it among the top 5% of companies EcoVadis assessed.

Lavazza also says its offices and plants have had zero CO2 impact since 2020.

It gets there partly by buying carbon offsets, not only by cutting emissions. So which of its coffees carry a certificate?

Is Lavazza Organic or Rainforest Alliance Certified?

Some Lavazza coffees are, but not all of them. ¡Tierra! for Planet is certified organic and Rainforest Alliance certified.

Lavazza ¡Tierra! for Planet in a bright sunlit kitchen setting.

Qualità Oro and Crema e Gusto show no organic or Rainforest Alliance mark on their UK listings.

Neither label tells you about mould, though. Organic rules cover how coffee is grown, not what a lab finds in the bag.

Is Lavazza B Corp Certified?

No. Lavazza does not appear in the B Lab directory of certified B Corps. I checked in October 2026, while researching this Lavazza coffee review.

A B Corp mark is not the only sign of good practice. Ethical sourcing is worth checking on its own.

Is Lavazza Ethically Sourced?

Partly, and it depends on the coffee. ¡Tierra! for Planet comes from Rainforest Alliance certified farms.

Lavazza ¡Tierra! for Planet coffee beside a sunlit rainforest waterfall with coffee cherries.

The Foundation also trains farmers in the ¡Tierra! regions to adapt to climate change.

For its other blends, Lavazza names only broad regions, such as Central and South America. That makes it hard to check how each farm is run.

How Does Lavazza Position Itself in the UK Coffee Market?

Lavazza sits between supermarket own-brand coffee and speciality coffee. Its blends aim for the same taste, bag after bag.

Speciality roasters tend to sell named farms and seasonal lots instead.

So how do you judge a coffee I have not scored? Here is the method I used.

How We Reviewed Lavazza Coffee

This Lavazza coffee review covers four products and one subscription. I picked the beans and capsules you are most likely to see on UK shelves.

Sunlit coffee tasting setup with espresso, coffee beans, and professional evaluation tools.

What We Checked

We looked at five areas from our testing framework for every product:

  • Flavour: Lavazza's published tasting notes, roast and intensity.
  • Health and purity: certifications and any published lab results.
  • Traceability: how precisely Lavazza names the origin.
  • Brand trust: certifications and what customers say.
  • Value: price per cup, using live UK prices.

We checked prices on Lavazza's UK site or a named UK retailer in October 2026. The capsule price is its December 2024 UK launch price.

Why Are There No Scores in This Review?

I only want a score here if it rests on a bag we bought, brewed and logged. We have no such record for these products.

So you get facts and prices here, not a number. I would rather give you no score than a guessed one.

Elegant coffee research desk with espresso, coffee beans, grinder, and review materials.

Who Did the Review?

I put this Lavazza coffee review together from Lavazza's published information and live UK prices.

Where a tasting note appears, it is Lavazza's description or a retailer's, and I say so.

Before the products, it helps to know how Lavazza differs from speciality coffee.

How Is Lavazza Different From Speciality Coffee?

Lavazza blends beans from several countries to hit a set taste. Some of its blends add Robusta, a hardier bean with more caffeine and bitterness.

Speciality coffee usually means 100% Arabica from named farms, roasted in smaller batches.

Neither approach is wrong. They suit different drinkers, as the three bean blends below show.

Lavazza Coffee Beans Reviews

Next, this Lavazza coffee review covers three bean and ground coffees sold widely in the UK.

Lavazza Qualità Oro

Qualità Oro is a 100% Arabica blend, and a common first Lavazza for UK buyers.

Bean Origin & Sourcing

Qualità Oro is 100% Arabica, a blend of six varieties. Lavazza sources it from Central and South America.

Ocado's listing says it grows at altitudes of up to 1,600 metres. No farms or smaller regions are named.

Lavazza Qualità Oro coffee with espresso, Arabica beans, and delicate floral accents.

Flavour Profile & Tasting Notes

Lavazza describes Qualità Oro as floral and fruity, with a velvety texture. It is a medium roast with an intensity of 5 out of 10.

Lavazza calls the beans ideal for espresso machines and shows moka pot recipes too.

These are Lavazza's own notes. We have not brewed and logged this bag.

What I Like

  • 100% Arabica, built from six varieties.
  • Medium roast at 5 out of 10, sold for espresso and moka pot.
  • Easy to find on Lavazza's site and at major supermarkets.
  • The 1kg bag is £19.00 at Ocado until 3 November 2026.

Those strengths come with a few gaps, though.

What I Don't Like

  • No published mould, mycotoxin or pesticide lab results.
  • Origin named only as Central and South America.
  • No organic or Rainforest Alliance mark on the UK listing.

So what does Qualità Oro actually cost?

Price & Value for Money

Lavazza's UK site lists the 250g bag at £6.50, or £26.00 per kg. It showed as unavailable there when we checked.

Lavazza Qualità Oro with espresso and a brass scale in a dark luxury value-themed setting.

Ocado has the 1kg bag at £19.00 until 3 November 2026, down from £27.50.

So the big retail bag can cut the price per kg by over a quarter.

Verdict

Qualità Oro is the safe first pick if you want a medium, 100% Arabica Italian blend. Buy the 1kg bag on a supermarket offer for the best price.

We also set Qualità Oro against two other coffees in Balance Coffee vs Exhale vs Lavazza.

Skip it if published purity testing matters to you. Want something bolder and cheaper? Crema e Gusto is next.

Lavazza Crema e Gusto Classico

Crema e Gusto is the cheaper, bolder blend in this review.

Bean Origin & Sourcing

Crema e Gusto blends Arabica with Robusta. Morrisons' listing for the 250g ground bag names Brazil and South East Asia.

No farms are named, and the Arabica to Robusta split is not published.

Lavazza Crema e Gusto Classico in a dramatic blue stained-glass setting.

Flavour Profile & Tasting Notes

Lavazza and its retailers describe it as full-bodied with spicy notes. The beans have an intensity of 7 out of 10.

Retailers disagree on roast. Morrisons calls the ground bag a dark roast and the beans a medium roast.

It is sold for moka pots, filter machines and cafetières. These notes come from the listings, not from our own brews.

What I Like

  • Sold as 1kg beans or 250g ground coffee.
  • The 1kg beans cost £18.50 at Morrisons.
  • Listed for moka pot, filter machine and cafetière.

The low price has trade-offs.

What I Don't Like

  • Contains Robusta, so it is not 100% Arabica.
  • No published mould, mycotoxin or pesticide lab results.
  • Roast level differs between retailer listings.

Price is where Crema e Gusto stands out.

Price & Value for Money

Morrisons sells the 1kg beans at £18.50. It sells the 250g ground bag at £5.75, which is £23.00 per kg.

Lavazza Crema e Gusto coffee with British currency and espresso in an elegant luxury setting.

So the 1kg bag saves about a fifth per kg. It is the cheapest coffee per kg in this Lavazza coffee review.

Verdict

Crema e Gusto is the budget pick if you want a full-bodied blend for black or milky coffee.

Skip it if you only drink 100% Arabica. Prefer organic beans instead? ¡Tierra! for Planet is the last blend here.

Lavazza ¡Tierra! for Planet

This is Lavazza's organic option, and the one with the most certificates.

Bean Origin & Sourcing

¡Tierra! for Planet is 100% organic Arabica. Lavazza sources it from Africa, Central America and South America.

Lavazza ¡Tierra! for Planet with coffee cherries and beans.

The cherries are hand-picked, so pickers can choose ripe fruit. It is a blend of several regions, not a single origin.

Flavour Profile & Tasting Notes

Lavazza describes tropical fruit and floral aromas. Its UK page does not list a roast level or intensity.

One retailer's UK site lists it as a dark roast, so check the pack before you buy.

What I Like

  • Certified organic to European standards.
  • Rainforest Alliance certified.
  • Hand-picked 100% Arabica.
  • Linked to Lavazza Foundation climate training for farmers.

Certificates do not answer every question, however.

What I Don't Like

  • A multi-region blend, with no farms named.
  • No published mould, mycotoxin or pesticide lab results.
  • No roast level or intensity on Lavazza's UK page.

Organic coffee often costs more. Here is what ¡Tierra! for Planet costs.

Price & Value for Money

Maxicoffee listed the 500g bag at £11.35 in October 2026, against a reference price of £14.50.

Lavazza ¡Tierra! for Planet with digital price analysis in an elegant coffee setting.

Its stock status was unclear when we checked.

Lavazza's UK collection page does not show a price, so check before you order.

Verdict

¡Tierra! for Planet is the Lavazza to choose if organic and Rainforest Alliance marks matter most.

Just remember that organic and lab tested are not the same thing. Prefer capsules to beans? The next section is for you.

Lavazza Coffee Pods Review

This part of the Lavazza coffee review covers one Nespresso-compatible capsule.

Lavazza also sells A Modo Mio capsules. These only fit Lavazza's own A Modo Mio machines.

Lavazza Espresso Gourmet Caramel

Lavazza sold this capsule in the UK as Caramel Flavoured Coffee Capsules when it launched in December 2024.

Bean Origin & Sourcing

The capsules hold 100% Arabica from Central and South America.

Lavazza flavours the coffee with caramel aroma. So the sweetness is added, not drawn from the beans.

Lavazza Espresso Gourmet Caramel pods in a dark glowing caramel-toned setting.

Flavour Profile & Tasting Notes

Lavazza lists biscuit notes and calls the cup sweet, delicate and balanced. It is a medium roast with an intensity of 8 out of 13.

Lavazza's capsule scale runs to 13, not 10. It suggests a 40ml espresso or a 110ml lungo.

Compatibility

These capsules fit Nespresso Original machines. They will not work in Vertuo machines, which use a different capsule.

What I Like

  • Fits Nespresso Original machines.
  • 100% Arabica base.
  • Launched in the UK at £4.25 for 10 capsules.

The downsides are worth knowing before you order.

What I Don't Like

  • The caramel flavour is added aroma.
  • Out of stock on Lavazza's site when I checked in October 2026.
  • No published mould, mycotoxin or pesticide lab results.

At least the price is easy to work out.

Price & Value for Money

Lavazza launched the caramel capsules in the UK at £4.25 for 10, through Amazon.

That is about 43p per capsule at launch price. Prices may have changed since December 2024.

Verdict

Choose it if you want an easy, sweet capsule for a Nespresso Original machine.

Skip it if you want coffee where the flavour comes from the beans alone. Drink a lot of Lavazza? The subscription may suit you.

Lavazza Coffee Subscription Review

The last product in this Lavazza coffee review is the coffee-only subscription.

What Does the Lavazza Subscription Include?

Lavazza calls it the Your Coffee Subscription. It covers beans, ground coffee, A Modo Mio capsules and Nespresso Original compatible capsules.

You pick one of three amounts, based on how much coffee you drink. Orders arrive every two months unless you change them.

Coffee subscription delivery with a truck, parcel, smartphone, and coffee beans.

Lavazza advertises savings of up to 35%. Delivery is free on every subscription order.

Coffee-only plans have no minimum term, and you can cancel at any time. Some machine plans carry minimum orders and early exit charges.

Is the Lavazza Subscription Better Than a One-Time Purchase?

It depends on the coffee. Lavazza does not show the discount for each format on its subscription page.

If Lavazza's top 35% saving applied to Qualità Oro, £26.00 per kg would drop to about £16.90. Ocado's current offer is £19.00 per kg.

So compare the price per kg before you sign up. The card below puts every product in this Lavazza coffee review side by side.

Pack prices only tell half the story, though. What matters day to day is the cost of each cup.

How Much Does Lavazza Cost Per Cup?

Lavazza costs between about 31p and 48p a cup, depending on the product and pack.

Elegant coffee cups and capsules arranged in a luxurious still life about cost per cup.

I used the same basis as our own bags. That is 15 cups per 250g, or about 16.7g a cup.

  • Crema e Gusto, 1kg beans at £18.50: about 31p a cup.
  • Qualità Oro, 1kg on Ocado offer at £19.00: about 32p a cup.
  • Crema e Gusto, 250g ground at £5.75: about 38p a cup.
  • ¡Tierra! for Planet, 500g at £11.35: about 38p a cup.
  • Qualità Oro, 250g from Lavazza at £6.50: about 43p a cup.
  • Espresso Gourmet Caramel, 10 capsules at £4.25: about 43p a capsule.
  • ¡Tierra! for Planet, 500g at its £14.50 reference price: about 48p a cup.

Price is where this Lavazza coffee review finds the brand strongest. So is it worth buying overall?

Is Lavazza Coffee Worth It?

The short answer is yes, if low price and easy buying come first for you. It is no if you want proof of what is in the bag.

What Lavazza Does Well

Lavazza gets several things right for everyday buyers.

  • Low cost per cup, from about 31p.
  • Sold by Lavazza and by major UK supermarkets.
  • An organic, Rainforest Alliance option in ¡Tierra! for Planet.
  • An EcoVadis Gold medal in 2023, plus over 50 Foundation projects in 20 countries.

The weak spots are mostly about what Lavazza does not publish.

Lavazza Crema e Gusto on a café table, lit on one side and shadowed on the other.

Where Lavazza Falls Short

These gaps matter most if you care about what is in the bag.

  • No published mould, mycotoxin or pesticide lab results for any product reviewed here.
  • Origins named by region, not by farm.
  • Not B Corp certified.
  • Its zero CO2 claim relies partly on carbon offsets.
  • Crema e Gusto contains Robusta.

Customers see Lavazza a little differently.

What Do Lavazza Customers Say?

Morrisons shoppers rate the 250g Crema e Gusto 4.5 out of 5. That is from only four reviews, though.

Lavazza's own UK web shop scores lower. Its Trustpilot rating was 1.8 out of 5 from 255 reviews when we checked.

The reviews we read there were mostly about orders and service, not the coffee itself. So who is Lavazza really for?

Who Should Buy Lavazza?

Lavazza suits you if one of these sounds familiar.

Elegant coffee still life showing everyday coffee appeal and more selective tasting preferences.

  • You want an Italian-style blend for under 50p a cup.
  • You shop at the supermarket and want coffee that is easy to find.
  • You want an organic, Rainforest Alliance option. Choose ¡Tierra! for Planet.
  • You own a Nespresso Original machine and like flavoured capsules.
  • You own a Lavazza A Modo Mio machine.

Some readers need something different, though.

Who Should Look Elsewhere?

Look elsewhere if any of these apply to you.

  • You want published lab results for mould, mycotoxins and pesticides.
  • You want coffee traced to named farms.
  • You only drink 100% Arabica. Skip Crema e Gusto.
  • You own a Vertuo machine. The capsules reviewed here will not fit.

If published testing matters most, look for a brand that shares its full lab report. If Lavazza suits you, here is where to buy it.

Where to Buy Lavazza Coffee

You can buy Lavazza direct, from supermarkets or on subscription.

Lavazza's Website

Lavazza's UK site sells the full range, including capsules and machines. Delivery is free on orders over £50.

Lavazza Qualità Oro on an elegant desk beside a laptop, phone, and coffee cup.

Third-Party Stockists

Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Ocado stock Lavazza beans and ground coffee. Amazon carries capsules too.

Ocado's 1kg Qualità Oro offer is cheaper per kg than Lavazza's own 250g bag.

Is There a Lavazza Subscription?

Yes. The Your Coffee Subscription runs through Lavazza's UK website, with savings of up to 35%.

That covers every product in this Lavazza coffee review. Now for the one section about my own coffee.

Lavazza Alternative (Balance Coffee)

Balance Coffee is my brand, so read this section as exactly that. I have not scored it, and it is not part of this review.

Our Stability Blend is lab tested by P.H. s.r.l., part of TÜV SÜD Group. The 2026 report shows no mould, mycotoxins or heavy metals detected.

The beans were also screened for over 600 pesticides. Results apply to the sample tested, and the full report is on our lab results page.

Stability Blend is a 100% Arabica medium roast. It has notes of milk chocolate, hazelnut and fig.

It costs more than Lavazza. A 250g bag is £14.99, or £12.74 on subscription.

That is 85p a cup on subscription. The Lavazza coffees in this review cost about 31p to 48p a cup.

Our lab report is public. Lavazza has not published one for these coffees.

A few questions come up often about Lavazza.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are short, direct answers to the ones we hear most.

Is Lavazza Good Quality Coffee?

Yes, for a supermarket coffee. Qualità Oro is 100% Arabica from six varieties. ¡Tierra! for Planet is organic and Rainforest Alliance certified.

Lavazza also earned an EcoVadis Gold medal in 2023. What it does not publish is any mould, mycotoxin or pesticide lab testing for these coffees.

Is Lavazza Coffee Mould-Free?

We cannot say, because Lavazza has not published lab results for it. We found no mould, mycotoxin or pesticide tests for the coffees in this review.

That does not mean the coffee contains mould. It means you cannot check. For more detail, read our answer to is Lavazza coffee mould-free.

Are Lavazza Pods Nespresso Compatible?

Some are. Espresso Gourmet Caramel and Lavazza's other Nespresso-compatible capsules fit Nespresso Original machines. They do not fit Vertuo machines.

Lavazza's A Modo Mio capsules are a separate system. They only work in A Modo Mio machines. Check the pack says Original before you buy capsules.

What Is the Best Lavazza Coffee to Try First?

Qualità Oro is the easiest place to start. It is a medium roast, 100% Arabica blend with an intensity of 5 out of 10.

Lavazza sells it for £6.50 per 250g. If you want organic coffee, start with ¡Tierra! for Planet instead, at £11.35 per 500g from Maxicoffee.

Is Lavazza Ethically Sourced?

Partly. ¡Tierra! for Planet is Rainforest Alliance certified. The Lavazza Foundation also runs more than 50 projects in 20 countries.

For blends like Qualità Oro and Crema e Gusto, Lavazza names only broad regions. That makes it hard for shoppers to check how each farm is run.

Does Lavazza Offer a Subscription?

Yes. The Your Coffee Subscription covers beans, ground coffee and capsules, with savings of up to 35%. Orders arrive every two months, and delivery is free.

Coffee-only plans have no minimum term. Some machine plans carry minimum orders and early exit charges, so read the terms first.

Conclusion

This Lavazza coffee review found a brand that does price and availability well. Qualità Oro is the easy everyday pick.

Crema e Gusto is the cheapest per cup. ¡Tierra! for Planet is the one to choose if organic marks matter.

Lavazza's sustainability work is real, though part of its zero CO2 claim rests on offsets.

The gap is purity data. None of these coffees comes with published mould, mycotoxin or pesticide results.

If that matters to you, choose a coffee that publishes its lab results. If it does not, Lavazza remains a fair, easy everyday buy.
