Exhale Coffee launched in October 2020. Its founders are Alex Higham and Kirsty Miller, known on its site as Al and Kirsty.
Both left London jobs to start the brand.
The reason was personal. Al describes a complex, seven-year health journey.
Exhale grew out of what he learned rebuilding his health.
That included switching to a coffee chosen for its health profile.
Roasting breaks down some of the antioxidant compounds in coffee. Lighter roasts tend to keep more of them.

Balance Coffee Taste and Roast Profile
Stability Blend is Balance Coffee's flagship blend, and a medium roast.
It combines beans from Brazil's Cerrado Mineiro with Chiapas in Mexico and Uganda's Rwenzori Mountains. Its tasting notes are milk chocolate, hazelnut and fig.
As espresso, my first shot ran a little fast and tasted thin. I tightened the grind slightly and kept the rest of the recipe the same.
That gave the shot more body and brought the milk chocolate and hazelnut forward. The finish became sweeter and cleaner.
In a Hario V60, the first brew's dried fruit was muted. A slightly finer grind and even pours made it sweeter, with the dried fruit easier to pick out.
That is the chocolate end of the scale. Exhale's House Roast sits much closer to the fruity end.

Exhale's main coffee, House Roast, now comes from Mt Elgon in Uganda. It is a washed coffee from one origin.
Exhale describes rich caramel and toasted nuts, with juicy raisin and bright citrus.
It is a medium to light roast. Lighter roasts tend to keep more antioxidants.

The 225g bag starts at £12.50, and the 450g bag costs £20. Exhale says they make about 15 and 30 cups.
That works out at about 83p a cup for the small bag. The 450g bag drops to about 67p.
Subscribers get 20% off for life. Exhale's trial page lists £18 for a 450g subscription bag, or about 60p a cup.
Delivery costs £2.41 to £3.45 unless you spend over £45. Its guarantee covers 30 days, limited to one bag.
Lavazza sits in another price bracket altogether.

Qualità Oro is the cheapest coffee here by a wide margin.
Lavazza lists a 250g bag at £6.50, or about 43p a cup.
Ocado had the 1kg bag at £19.00 on offer in October 2026. That is about 32p a cup.
But Qualità Oro has no organic mark and no published lab results. Exhale and Balance both offer something on that front, alongside mould free coffee options.

Balance Coffee was founded on a toxin-free principle. We sell speciality-grade, clean coffee.
Our beans and ground coffee were tested by P.H. s.r.l., part of TÜV SÜD Group, in 2026. The lab found no mould, mycotoxins or heavy metals.

Exhale is certified organic by the Soil Association. It says an outside lab tests every batch for mould, mould toxins and pesticides.
When we checked in October 2026, we could not find those results on its site.
Exhale also says its coffee is high in antioxidants. It used nine lab tests to choose its beans.
Lavazza says much less about purity than either brand.

Its UK listings show no organic mark either.
