I'd say finding good organic coffee pods for the machine you already own is easier than you'd imagine.
Picture this for a second: you have a Nespresso, but you simply want a cleaner pod for it.

It's the same machine, literally the same 30 seconds, just a better swap.
So this guide gives you nine certified organic Nespresso pods. Each one suits a different kind of drinker.
You'll also find our own pod, set apart as an Editor's Pick. It is not certified organic, so it sits outside the list.
I want you to use this guide like a map, not a league table. Each pod solves a different need, from decaf to recycling.
James has spent over 14 years in coffee, including six years working with Sanremo espresso machines. He holds the SCA Coffee Skills Diploma and founded Balance Coffee.
Those years taught me to read the box before the badge. So every pod here is judged on facts you can check yourself.
Not feeling organic today? My guide to the best Nespresso coffee pods covers the wider field.
Evidence-based Review. Nothing in this guide is scored or ranked, including our own pod. We did not buy or brew these pods. Every flavour note is the brand's own description, checked between 1 and 4 November 2026.
I founded Balance Coffee, and our pod appears in this guide. That is why it carries no score and sits apart as an unranked Editor's Pick.

How We Chose These Pods
This is an unscored, evidence-based review. We follow the Balance Coffee testing framework, which puts published evidence ahead of opinion.

Each of the nine organic picks had to pass four checks:
- The brand or its UK retailer calls the pod organic on its own page.
- The pod fits a Nespresso Original machine.
- The brand or retailer states what the pod is made of.
- Buyers in the UK can order it.
Those four checks keep this list to genuine organic coffee pods for Nespresso. Pods that failed a check stayed off the list.
Our own pod is different. It fails the organic check, so it sits apart as an Editor's Pick on published lab results instead.
We worked out the price per pod the same way each time: pack price divided by pod count. Where a brand offers a subscription, we show that price too.
Prices and stock change often, so check the shop before you buy. Where we could not confirm a fact, we say so in the entry.
New to pods altogether? Our coffee pods guide explains the basics.
If you only try three pods, start with the ones that suit the most common needs. These are my top 3 picks:

What Are the Best Organic Coffee Pods in the UK? (Quick Picks)
The best organic coffee pods are CRU Kafe Organic Espresso for ethics, and its Decaf for milky drinks. Kiss the Hippo suits plastic-free buyers, Extract suits recyclers, Owens suits taste and Waitrose suits the weekly shop. Terramoka suits home compost, Destination suits water-process decaf, and Lavazza suits big-name fans.

Here is a more detailed break-down:
Nine organic pods, nine different drinkers, plus our own:
- Editor's Pick (ours, not certified organic): Balance Coffee Clean Coffee Pods. Published lab results for our coffee.
- Fairtrade and B Corp credentials: CRU Kafe Organic Espresso. From 33p a pod on subscription.
- Organic decaf for milky drinks: CRU Kafe Organic Decaf. Milk chocolate, vanilla and pistachio notes.
- Plastic-free pods from a UK roaster: Kiss the Hippo Organic House Blend Pods. Compostable, roasted in London.

- Award-winning taste: Owens Organic Nespresso Compatible Pods. 2 Star Great Taste Award 2025.
- Supermarket own-label: Waitrose No.1 Peru Decaf Coffee Capsules. 32.5p a pod, no subscription.

- A name you already know: Lavazza ¡Tierra! Bio-Organic. 100% organic Arabica.
Each pick above rests on a fact, not a score. But what does the organic label on them actually cover?
What Does Organic Mean for Coffee Pods?
In the UK, organic is a protected word on food, under the organic labelling rules.
A product can only use it if an approved control body certifies it.
Look for a code on the pack. UK-certified products show a code in the format GB-ORG-XX.

Imported products usually show a different code, often in the format XX-BIO-XXX. Several pods here come from France, so expect that kind of code.
Products generally need at least 95% organic farm ingredients to carry the word. Only a company based and certified in the UK can import organic food here.
So what do organic coffee pods promise? They promise coffee farmed without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers.
That is a real benefit for soil, farmers and wildlife. Fairtrade is a separate mark. It covers fair pay for farmers, not how the coffee is grown.
Here is the part most people miss. Organic rules do not check the finished coffee for mould.
A mould toxin called ochratoxin A can form whenever coffee gets damp. The European Coffee Federation says coffee must stay dry through processing, storage and transport.
Organic rules cover the farming, not these later steps.
None of this makes organic a poor choice. It is a good sign about farming. It just answers a different question from a lab test.
If you also buy beans, see our list of the best organic coffee beans. So how do the pods compare side by side?
How They Compare on the Facts

Checked 1 to 4 November 2026. Our pod leads one fact here: a published lab report for our coffee. It is also the only pod that is not certified organic, and it costs the most per pod.
Those are the facts in brief. So where does our own pod fit, if it is not organic?
Editor's Pick: Balance Coffee Clean Coffee Pods
Balance Coffee is our coffee, and this is our site. These pods are not certified organic, so they sit outside the list of nine.
So why include them at all? Because we had our coffee screened by an independent lab, and we publish the results.

The evidence?
In 2026, P.H. s.r.l. screened a sample of our beans and ground coffee. It is an ACCREDIA-accredited lab in the TÜV SÜD Group.
Mould, mycotoxins and heavy metals were all below detectable limits. The coffee was also screened for over 600 pesticides.
You can read our independent lab results in full. However, the lab screened our beans and ground coffee, not the pods.
The report names the sample as Balance Coffee beans and ground coffee. The full lab report is free to download from the results page.
The report lists every result with the lab's method and a reference number. As a result, you can check each figure yourself.
Flavour
Our Clean Coffee Pods product page describes a smooth medium roast. It lists notes of milk chocolate, hazelnut and fig.
Key features
- Fits Nespresso Original machines, not Vertuo
- Recyclable aluminium pods
- Speciality-grade Arabica from Mexico and Uganda
- Lab results published for our beans and ground coffee
- Results cover mould and yeast, mycotoxins, heavy metals and pesticides

Price
Ideal for
You want lab evidence on what is in your coffee, and the organic label is not a must.
In particular, it suits you if you want to read the full report before you buy.
Worth knowing
- It is not sold as certified organic.
- It costs the most per pod on this page, even on subscription.
- The lab screened beans and ground coffee, not the pods themselves.
- Only one blend is on sale today. Our other pods are marked "coming soon".
That is our own pod. Now for the nine that carry the organic label.
9 Organic Coffee Pods for Nespresso, Matched to Your Needs
The numbers below are reading order, not a ranking. Each pod wins a different need, so start with the one that sounds like you.
1. CRU Kafe Organic Espresso: Best for Fairtrade and B Corp Credentials
CRU Kafe says it has sold only organic coffee since 2013. Its Organic Espresso carries three ethical marks at once.

It is certified organic, Fairtrade and made by a certified B Corp. In addition, CRU Kafe says it was the first independent brand on the national Podback scheme.
Consider the numbers.
On subscription, the price drops to 33p a pod. As a result, it is among the cheapest pods on this list.
All CRU Kafe organic pods carry the same marks. The range also includes other blends, if you want to branch out later.
You can find some at Ocado too.
Flavour
CRU Kafe describes a cacao-heavy body that is smooth on its own or with milk. It lists cacao, smoky and hazelnut notes.
Even so, it calls this its most drinkable cup, with the richness of a classic espresso.
Key features
- Certified organic by the Soil Association, says CRU Kafe
- Fits Nespresso Original machines; CRU says they are not designed for Vertuo
- Recyclable aluminium pods, accepted by Podback
- Fairtrade, and a certified B Corp since November 2021
- Great Taste award badge on the product page
- Rated 4.7 out of 5 from 109 reviews on CRU Kafe's own site

Price
You can pause, skip or cancel the subscription at any time.
Ideal for
You want your pod to tick the ethical boxes, and you are happy to subscribe.
It also suits espresso drinkers who like a deep, cacao-led cup.
Worth knowing
- It fits Original machines only.
- The lowest prices need a subscription.
- CRU Kafe says it tests its coffee, but it publishes no lab report.
- One-off orders only get free delivery from £40.
CRU Kafe also makes a decaf, and it comes next.
2. CRU Kafe Organic Decaf: Best Organic Decaf for Milky Drinks
Decaf drinkers often get the dullest choice of pods.
One detail changes that.
CRU Kafe pitches this one as a decaf that works black or as a milky latte.

The beans come from Peru. Because plenty of organic coffee pods skip decaf altogether, a good one is worth knowing about.
Similarly, CRU Kafe says this decaf is organic and Fairtrade, like every coffee it sells.
Flavour
CRU Kafe describes it as deep and full-bodied. It lists milk chocolate, vanilla and pistachio notes.
In addition, it mentions a malted body and a smooth mouthfeel. CRU Kafe calls it a good example of the strength of Peruvian coffee.
Its Discovery Box includes a sleeve of every blend, so you can try it alongside the others.
Key features
- Certified organic by the Soil Association, says CRU Kafe
- Fits Nespresso Original machines only
- Recyclable aluminium pods
- Fairtrade, from a certified B Corp
- Rated 4.8 out of 5 from 135 reviews on CRU Kafe's own site
- Subscriptions can be paused, skipped or cancelled at any time

Price
Ideal for
You drink decaf with milk and want an organic, Fairtrade pod.
It also works for an evening latte when you still want a full-bodied cup.
Worth knowing
- CRU Kafe does not state its decaf method on the product page.
- It fits Original machines only.
- It has no published lab report.
- The best prices need a subscription.
Prefer beans for your decaf? See our guide to the best decaf coffee beans.
Shop CRU Kafe Organic Decaf →Next comes a pod that skips aluminium altogether.
3. Kiss the Hippo Organic House Blend Pods: Best for Plastic-Free Pods From a UK Roaster
Many organic coffee pods still use aluminium. However, these do not. Kiss the Hippo roasts its coffee in London.

The difference?
It says its pods are compostable and plastic-free. The brand calls its site London's first carbon-negative coffee roastery.
In addition, it says it pays over twice the Fairtrade price for its coffee.
Flavour
Kiss the Hippo describes the blend as balanced, sweet and crowd-pleasing. Chocolate and caramel come first, with a hint of red berries at the finish.
It calls this an update of its fan-favourite George Street Blend. Kiss the Hippo roasts it to a medium level.
As a result, it calls the cup smooth, mellow and easy to drink.
Key features
- Soil Association certified organic, says Kiss the Hippo
- Fits original-style Nespresso machines, not Vertuo
- Compostable, plastic-free pods
- A medium-roast blend of two speciality coffees
- Letterbox-friendly box of 30 pods
- Organic Classic Blend and Organic Decaf pods come in the same format
- Office pod subscriptions are available for bigger orders

Price
Packs of 20 are listed too.
Ideal for
You want to give up aluminium and back a small UK roaster.
It also suits anyone who wants a sweet, easy-drinking cup every morning.
Worth knowing
- The origins change over time, so the cup may change too.
- One-off orders under £50 pay for delivery.
- It costs more per pod than CRU Kafe on subscription.
- It has no published lab report.
If you would rather keep aluminium and recycle it, look at Extract.
4. Extract Organic Coffee Pods: Best for Free Aluminium Recycling
Extract is a Bristol roaster and a certified B Corp. It makes its pods from recycled aluminium.

Then there is the recycling.
Extract gives you a free Podback bag for sending used pods to be recycled. It explains what happens next.
Podback shreds the pods, recycles the aluminium and sends the grounds to make renewable energy.
Extract also sells Original and Decaf pods. However, only this one is sold as organic.
Flavour
Extract describes a rich, medium-dark coffee with dark chocolate, fruit loaf and toffee apple. It says the cup softens nicely in milk.
Key features
- Sold as organic on Extract's own pod page
- Extract's Organic Espresso page names the Soil Association as its certifier
- Fits Nespresso Original machines
- Recycled aluminium pods, plus a free Podback bag
- A blend from Honduras (honey process) and Peru (washed)

Price
The 60-pack ships free too.
Ideal for
You want aluminium pods and an easy, free way to recycle them.
Because the 60-pack ships free, it also suits busy homes that buy in bulk. Podback's online checker shows your nearest drop-off point.
Our guide on how to recycle coffee pods covers every option.
Worth knowing
- It has the highest one-off price per pod of the nine organic picks.
- The pod page itself names no organic certifier.
- It has no published lab report.
- It was back-ordered when we checked.
Owens is another UK roaster, this time with a taste award to its name.
5. Owens Organic Nespresso Compatible Pods: Best for Award-Winning Taste
Owens roasts organic, Fairtrade coffee in Devon.
Here's where it gets interesting:
Its organic coffee pods hold Gara, a house blend with a 2 Star Great Taste Award from 2025.

In addition, Owens says Good Housekeeping testers rated the pods highly in 2024 and 2025.
It roasts on a Loring Smart Roaster. Owens says this kind of roaster uses up to 80% less fuel than a standard drum roaster.
Flavour
Owens describes Gara as bold and multi-layered. It lists caramel, biscuit and roasted nut, with a crisp fruit lift.
The beans come from Honduras and Peru. Owens says the roast keeps rich caramel depth without dulling the fruit.
It also runs a café and roastery shop near Ivybridge, if you want to visit.
Key features
- Organic and Fairtrade certified, with the Soil Association named by Owens
- Fits Nespresso Original Line machines, not Vertuo
- Plastic-free pods
- 2 Star Great Taste Award 2025 for the Gara blend
- Beans from a women's cooperative in Honduras and cloud-forest farms in Peru

Price
Ideal for
You care most about how the cup tastes, as judged by others.
Owens also says Gara suits anyone starting out in speciality coffee.
Worth knowing
- It was sold out when we checked.
- Owens only delivers within the UK.
- The page calls the pods compostable in one place and recyclable in another. Ask Owens before you choose a bin.
- At 62.5p a pod, it sits in the middle on price.
- It has no published lab report.
For a pod you can add to the weekly shop, try Waitrose.
6. Waitrose No.1 Peru Decaf Coffee Capsules: Best Supermarket Own-Label
Not everyone wants a subscription or a coffee website. Waitrose sells an organic decaf pod under its premium No.1 label.

So what does that mean for you?
You can add it to a normal grocery order. At 32.5p a pod, it is one of the cheaper organic choices on this list.
Waitrose delivers it with the rest of your shopping. However, online orders have a £40 minimum.
Flavour
Waitrose describes a smooth, sweet coffee with notes of lemon acidity and caramel. The beans are 100% Arabica, grown high on the Andes in Peru.
Waitrose suggests a 40ml espresso, served soon after it is made.
Key features
- Organic and Fairtrade, under the Waitrose own label
- Waitrose says it fits machines made by Nespresso
- Waitrose lists the capsule as metal and the box as paper and card
- Medium roast, intensity 7 on Waitrose's guide
- Packed in France for Waitrose
- Single-origin, 100% Arabica
- Rated 5 out of 5 from 25 reviews on Waitrose.com

Price
Ideal for
You want an organic decaf from the supermarket, with no subscription.
Because packs are small, it also suits anyone trying organic pods before buying in bulk.
Shopping on a tighter budget? See which coffee pods are best to buy, organic or not.
Worth knowing
- It is decaf only. Waitrose's other No.1 pods are Fairtrade, not organic.
- It only comes in packs of 10.
- Online orders need a £40 minimum spend.
- The page does not mention Vertuo, so stick to Original machines.
- It has no published lab report.
If you would rather compost your pods at home, Terramoka is next.
7. Terramoka Inès: Best for Home Compostable Pods
If you want organic coffee pods that can go in your garden compost, start here.
Terramoka is a French roaster whose pods contain no aluminium. It sells them as home compostable.

Let us explain.
Home compostable matters if your council does not collect food waste. That is because a home compostable pod can go into a garden bin.
In addition, MaxiCoffee, which sells it in the UK, calls the capsules biodegradable.
Flavour
Terramoka describes Inès as a balanced, aromatic coffee with spicy notes. It is a single-origin Arabica from Papua New Guinea.
Terramoka also sells Inès as ground coffee, if you use other brewers at home.
Key features
- 100% organic Arabica from Papua New Guinea
- Fits Nespresso Original machines, not Vertuo
- Sold as home compostable
- Terramoka says the pods break down in 24 weeks at 20°C
- No aluminium, with plant-based pods and lids

Price
The 60-pod price is from MaxiCoffee UK.
Ideal for
You have a garden compost bin and want your pods to go in it.
It also suits anyone who wants a single-origin cup at under 40p a pod. As a result, it is one of the cheaper pods here.
Worth knowing
- It ships from a French retailer, MaxiCoffee.
- It had no customer reviews on the listing when we checked.
- Sellers describe the pod material in different ways.
- We could not find a named compost certifier on the listing.
- Stock can run low, so check before you plan around it.
Destination, another French brand, covers decaf from a different angle.
8. Destination Mild Organic Decaf: Best for Water-Process Decaf
Many decaf drinkers want to know how the caffeine came out. Destination answers that plainly.

It says its organic Arabica is decaffeinated using water. Water processing removes caffeine without chemical solvents.
Therefore, some decaf drinkers look for it. Destination roasts its coffee in south-west France.
To be fair.
Owens also sells an organic Swiss Water decaf pod, but it was sold out when we checked.
MaxiCoffee calls it the market leader for organic products in France.
Flavour
Destination describes it as a mild, aromatic espresso. MaxiCoffee, its UK seller, lists floral as the main note.
In addition, MaxiCoffee lists a mild intensity and a 45ml cup. Destination makes other organic coffee pods in the same plant-fibre format, including a lungo.
Key features
- Organic Arabica, decaffeinated using water
- Fits Nespresso Original machines
- Plant-fibre pods with no aluminium
- Sold as biodegradable and compostable
- GMO-free and roasted in France, says Destination

Price
Ideal for
You drink decaf and want to know exactly how it was made.
It also suits anyone who likes a softer, milder espresso. Its plant-fibre pods suit anyone avoiding aluminium too.
Worth knowing
- Stock comes and goes, so check before you order.
- At 53p a pod, it costs more than CRU Kafe's decaf on subscription.
- It is imported from France through MaxiCoffee.
- Its listing calls the pods home compostable, but names no certifier.
- It is a mild coffee, so it may feel light if you like a strong cup.
Last comes a brand you probably know from the supermarket aisle.
9. Lavazza ¡Tierra! Bio-Organic: Best for a Name You Already Know
Some people trust a big brand more than a small roaster. Lavazza's ¡Tierra! range includes an organic pod for Nespresso Original machines.

It is 100% organic Arabica. Lavazza has roasted coffee in Turin since 1895.
It presents ¡Tierra! as its more sustainable range. However, the Nespresso version comes in aluminium pods.
Flavour
On its Amazon listing, Lavazza describes a medium roast with fruity notes. The beans come from Africa and Central and South America.
The catch?
The ¡Tierra! name also covers beans and other pod formats, so read the label closely. Some ¡Tierra! beans carry Rainforest Alliance as well as organic.
Key features
- Listed as certified organic on Amazon UK
- Fits Nespresso Original machines, not Vertuo
- Aluminium pods
- Sold on Amazon UK as 5 boxes of 10 pods
- Made by Lavazza, which is not linked to Nespresso
- Some UK sellers also list Rainforest Alliance

Price
We could not confirm the Amazon UK price on the day we checked.
Ideal for
You want an organic pod from a name you already know.
It also suits anyone who already shops for pods on Amazon.
Worth knowing
- It can be hard to find in stock. The 29p stockist was sold out when we checked.
- It is easy to buy the wrong pod. Lavazza's A Modo Mio Tierra pods do not fit Nespresso.
- It has no published lab report.

Which Should You Choose?
Every pod here wins on something different. All ten fit a Nespresso Original, and nine are certified organic coffee pods.

Pick the line that sounds most like you.
Three of the ten are decaf, so decaf drinkers have real choice. Three of the ten skip aluminium altogether.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are there organic Nespresso pods?
Yes. Compatible brands such as CRU Kafe, Kiss the Hippo, Extract and Owens make them for Nespresso Original machines. Nespresso also sells its own Peru Organic pods. Nespresso says they are not available for the time being. Check the pack for an organic code before you buy.
Do organic coffee pods fit a Nespresso Vertuo?
No, none of the pods on this list does. Vertuo machines use a different pod shape and read a barcode. Nespresso's own Peru Organic Vertuo pod exists, but it is currently unavailable. Check each brand's page first. Our guide to how coffee pods work explains more.
Are organic coffee pods worth it?
Yes, if farming matters to you. Organic means no synthetic pesticides or fertilisers on the farm. On subscription, some cost as little as 33p a pod, such as CRU Kafe. But organic does not prove cup quality. Only a lab test shows what is in the coffee.
Does organic mean mould free?
No. Organic covers how the coffee is farmed. Mould can form later, mainly during drying and storage. Only a lab test of the coffee itself can show what is there. Look for brands that publish their results. Our list of coffee brands that publish mould testing is a good start.
Are organic coffee pods recyclable or compostable?
Both kinds exist. Aluminium pods recycle through Podback, or kerbside where your council accepts them. Compostable pods split into home and industrial types. Industrial ones need a special site, not your garden bin. Always check the box so your pods end up in the right bin.
What is the best decaf organic pod?
It depends on how you drink it. If you take your decaf with milk, choose CRU Kafe Organic Decaf. For water-process decaf, choose Destination Mild Organic Decaf. For supermarket ease, choose Waitrose No.1 Peru Decaf. Check each pack for its organic code before you buy.
So which pod should you start with?
Conclusion
Choosing organic coffee pods comes down to one question: why do you want them?
Start with your reason, and the right pod follows.
For decaf, choose CRU Kafe with milk, Destination for water process, or Waitrose for ease. For recycling, Extract gives you a free Podback bag.
For home compost, try Terramoka. For plastic-free pods from a UK roaster, try Kiss the Hippo.
For organic, Fairtrade and B Corp together, choose CRU Kafe's Organic Espresso.
For price, Lavazza costs 29p a pod at one stockist, when in stock. CRU Kafe drops to 33p on subscription. For taste, Owens has the awards. For a known name, Lavazza is there.
Our own Clean Coffee Pods come with published lab results for our coffee. But they are not certified organic.
Organic tells you how coffee was farmed. A lab test tells you what is in it.
